Um…THE DOWNTON ABBEY FILM COMES OUT TODAY IN TH US! *screaming* I, unfortunately, am waiting until Saturday to go to see it. The one showtime (ahem, excuse me?) at the nearby theater from today to Friday would have Maghrib prayer (at sunset) fall horrifically smack dab in the middle of the film. And although I love Downton Abbey, I don’t love it quite enough to miss a prayer which coincidentally happens to be my favorite prayer of the day.
So, in the meantime, I’ll just be in a mild frenzy keeping my eyes away from the internet while I wait to go see it! To get geared up for the second film’s release, I wrote a show analysis/social commentary on 7 reasons Downton Abbey reminds me of my life and many Muslim female friends of mine. Someone make a show centering on Muslim women characters with this as inspiration–or at least someone grab a few friends and make a spoof of moments from this series that are ridiculously similar to what Muslim women in America experience today.
Head over to muslimmatters.org to read the full article! And in the meantime, I leave you with this delectable tease of the article to whet your appetites!
To finish off, I’ll say my favorite female characters from the show are Sibyl Crawley and Cousin Isobel. My favorite male character is obviously Tom Branson.
